How Interline Hardware manages inventory and purchasing with Lark

Across 60,000+ inventory items, Lark helps Interline monitor stock levels, identify stockout risks, keep reorder points current, and plan purchasing. This helps keep products available and avoid tying up cash in excess inventory.

About
A wholesale hardware supplier serving contractors and trade professionals for more than 20 years.
  • 60,000+SKUs in inventory
  • ~60 hoursEstimated time saved per month
  • <1 monthKickoff to first use
  • Challenge

Inventory checks and daily purchasing took hours. Reorder points often went months without review.

  • Solution

Lark connects to Interline's ERP and runs ongoing analysis to flag inventory risks and recommend what to order.

  • Results

Missed reorders flagged, reorder points kept current, and an estimated 60 hours saved each month.

“Our purchasing team used to spend three hours a day putting the reorder list together. Now Lark prepares it, and we spend about 30 minutes a day reviewing and approving it. That saves us around 60 hours a month. It's also caught items I'd overlooked, and we have more time to get other work done.”

01

Setup around Interline's operations

Less than a month after kickoff, Lark was connected to Interline's existing ERP and providing purchasing recommendations. The Lark team worked directly with Interline to set up the connection and walked Mike through the product using Interline's own items.

Setup went smoothly, and the purchasing team found Lark easy to get used to after the walkthrough and some hands-on use. The Lark team stayed available for questions and made changes based on their feedback, including making item numbers easier to find.

02

How the team manages inventory

Lark connects to Interline's existing ERP and runs ongoing analysis of sales history, stock levels, and outstanding purchase orders. This provides the team with inventory alerts, updated reorder points, and purchasing recommendations.

Inventory monitoring
Tracks stock levels, sales patterns, and open purchase orders so the team can review inventory needs.
Stockout and excess inventory risks
Highlights items that may run short and where buying more could tie up cash unnecessarily.
Reorder points
Calculated on demand so the team has current thresholds for when to replenish each item.
Purchasing
Prepares order recommendations based on sales pace, restock time, seasonality, order requirements, vendor supply windows, and promotions.

Each purchasing recommendation includes a suggested quantity, cost, and reason for ordering. The purchasing team can review the list by supplier, check the supporting sales history, and change quantities before approving the purchase.

03

What changed in daily inventory management

Catching missed reorders. Lark has flagged multiple items that were overlooked during Interline's purchasing reviews. In one example, it flagged heavy-duty black can liners, bringing the replenishment need to the team's attention in time to act. These checks help the team catch missed reorders before they can lead to stockouts and lost sales.

Illustrative Lark screen: heavy-duty black can liners marked as needing attention. Available stock is 6 cases below the reorder point and nothing is on order, so Lark recommends 60 cases by Wednesday, September 30.

Keeping reorder points current. Calculating reorder points by hand took so much time that Interline typically reviewed them only once every three to six months. Lark now calculates reorder points on demand, so the team can review current recommendations and suggested changes whenever needed.

Protecting revenue and freeing up cash

Stockouts put revenue at risk. Lark helps Interline spot shortages and replenishment needs earlier, so the team can act before unavailable products turn into lost sales.

Excess inventory ties up cash. Lark accounts for expected demand, stock on hand, and incoming orders to help the team avoid overbuying and keep cash available for the products customers need.

Advice for other distributors

“Lark has changed how we manage inventory and purchasing. It helps us stay on top of stock, keep reorder points current, and catch things we'd otherwise miss. We have more time for other work, and I can't imagine working without it now. I'd recommend Lark to other distributors.”
